Star has a new wine spot, but this one comes with a little more history.
The Cellars at River's Edge is tucked along Highway 44 inside a beautifully restored farmhouse that dates back to 1921. What was once part of a working dairy farm has been given an entirely new life as a wine bar centered around thoughtfully selected bottles, events, conversation, and gathering.
I visited with Gabby during one of our weekly meetings, and between the property, its story, and the people behind it, this quickly became one of those places I knew I needed to share.
A Wine Bar With More Than 100 Years of History
Before there were wine glasses on the tables, this property was an active dairy farm.
The original farmhouse was built in 1921 for the farmer and his family, and so many pieces of that first chapter are still here today. During the restoration, they intentionally kept details like the exposed wooden ceiling beams, original staircase railing and banister, historic columns, and even the dirt-floor root cellar underneath the house.
Outside, one building was once the milking barn, and the original cow manger can still be found along the north edge of the current parking area.
Over the years, the property has had several lives. In the 1980s, the farmhouse became a bed and breakfast with four upstairs guest rooms. A small cottage on the property once held a hot tub for guests and later became a poodle grooming salon.
Eventually, Delbert and Terry Elwood purchased the property in 2010 and spent the next 15 years calling it home. In 2025, Scott, Denise, Melody, and Jeremie purchased it and began the extensive restoration that would become The Cellars at River’s Edge.
It is one of my favorite things about the space. You aren't walking into something designed to look historic. You're actually sitting inside the history.
What You'll Find on the Wine List
Wine is obviously the star here, with a menu built around a variety of reds, whites, and rosés available by the glass or bottle.
Their list includes reds like Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet, along with whites including Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon.
But don't worry if someone in your group isn't ordering wine. Their drink menu also includes cocktails like an Old Fashioned, Paloma, Martini, Mojito, Moscow Mule, and G&T, plus Prosecco, mocktails, beer, and soft drinks.
The owners describe their mission as celebrating the artistry, craftsmanship, and tradition behind each bottle while still creating a welcoming space to actually enjoy it. That balance is noticeable when you're there.
What About Food?
The Cellars doesn’t have a full kitchen, but they’ve partnered with Rare Steakhouse so guests can order select menu items and have them delivered right to the wine bar. When Gabby and I visited, we ordered a few bites to share with our drinks, which made it an easy spot to settle in for the evening without having to plan dinner somewhere else first. 🍷
Their Wine Clubs Are Worth Knowing About
If you see yourself becoming a regular, The Cellars also has two membership options.
The Inner Circle begins with the purchase of three bottles and includes four three-bottle releases each year. Members receive perks like discounts on bottles, cases, wine by the glass, and Tuesday wine flights, plus access to small-lot wines, wine club events, member pricing, merchandise discounts, and select private-event booking availability.
The Founder's Society is limited to 50 members and starts with a 12-bottle case. Members receive two 12-bottle releases each year, larger bottle and case discounts, access to limited-edition wines, and priority access for private-event bookings.
Basically, if The Cellars becomes your new Wednesday afternoon meeting spot or Friday-night hangout, there are some nice perks waiting for you.
Keep an Eye on Their Events
This isn't meant to be a wine bar you visit once and forget about.
The Cellars has been building a calendar around experiences like trivia, paint-and-sip nights, whiskey flights, live music, and other special events, giving you plenty of excuses to come back.
Their original plans for the property also included regular live entertainment, a future speakeasy, and a larger event center, so there is still more to come from this space.
My advice? Check their event calendar before you head out. You may end up planning your visit around something fun rather than simply stopping in for a glass.
A Different Kind of Night Out in Star
One of the things I liked most about The Cellars is that it works for several different moods.
You could meet a girlfriend for wine, turn it into date night, bring a small group for an event, or do what Gabby and I did and make your weekly meeting considerably more fun than sitting around the office. 😂
The property has both indoor and outdoor spaces, and the historic farmhouse gives everything a cozy, intimate feel. When we visited, the experience felt thoughtful without being overly formal, which is exactly what I want from a local wine bar.

All guests must be 21 or older, and reservations are strongly encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome when seating is available. The official site also emphasizes that the space is intentionally focused on creating a welcoming setting for thoughtfully selected wines and time spent together.
